Tyler, the Creator 'pushed it' in heated moment with Timothee Chalamet

Tyler, the Creator "pushed it" during a heated scene with Timothee Chalamet in Marty Supreme by smacking his co-star in the face.
The rapper appears in the sports drama playing Wally - the best friend of Chalamet's character Marty - and they are seen facing off in a scene at a bowling alley and the film's director Josh Safdie has revealed he urged Tyler to direct all his rage at Timothee and it created "one of the most moving moments in the film".
In an interview for Variety, Safdie explained: "It's a huge moment in the movie, so small though. Tyler, the Creator - Tyler Okonma - plays Wally, [Marty's] friend who doesn't have the luxury to dream.
"And there's a frustration there. They're doing this hustle at the bowling alley, and Marty's playing the heel and Wally's playing the victim, and he's getting everybody to rally behind him.
"And I told Tyler to really push it in his anger at Marty."
Safdie went on to reveal Tyler took his direction further than expected by smacking his co-star in the face - and it worked by Timothee wasn't expecting it.
The moviemaker added: "One take, he really pushed it: He threw his hand into Timmy and pushed his glasses into his face.
"And in that moment, you're seeing all the extras - I had extras throwing lines in all the time to catch Timmy off guard, so he's constantly having to interact with them.
"And in that moment, you're seeing Timothee Chalamet kind of be like: 'Oh my God, this guy just pushed me in my face in front of all these people.'
"And there's a humility in that moment, but it's underneath the performance. It's one of the most moving moments in the film.
"And I always tell Timmy that, and I thank Tyler for being able to go there. Those are the moments where you're seeing your actor transcend and kind of fuse with themself. "
It comes after Safdie revealed he made Timothee, 30, wear contact lenses to obscure his vision so he had to rely on a real pair of glasses on set.
Speaking at a panel event in Los Angeles, Safdie told the audience: "At the time, we said, we were going to put +10 contact lenses in your eyes, and we're gonna put -10 prescription lenses in front of them so that when his glasses fall off, he can't see s*** ...
"He [Chalamet] calls me, and he says: 'I've got the +10s in right now, I'm pretty dizzy'."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Safdie added that the actor felt as if he was living "in a fishbowl" but was determined to obey the director's instructions.
